FAQ

Questions and answers

Can I cut up a fallen tree myself?

Small limbs on the ground, maybe. A whole fallen tree, no. Wood under tension can snap or roll without warning. Chainsaws kick back, and wet ground makes footing worse. If the trunk rests on a roof, fence or power line, stay clear. Take photos from a safe spot, then request an estimate. A local provider has the gear and training for this.

What should I do first when a tree hits my house?

Get everyone out of the area and check for injuries. If you smell gas, see sparks or spot a downed line, stay far back and contact the utility or emergency services. Safety first, then photos. Shoot the damage from outside, with wide shots and close ups. Then request an estimate so a provider can plan the job.

Is a leaning tree an emergency?

Not always. A tree that has leaned for years is different from one that just shifted. Watch for fresh soil cracks near the base, lifted roots, or a new tilt after heavy rain. Hot, wet summers and storm season can loosen soil fast. Keep people and cars out of the fall zone. Request an estimate and describe what changed.

Does homeowners insurance cover tree removal?

Some policies may cover sudden damage, like a tree that lands on a house in a storm. Many do not cover removal of a tree that fell without hitting anything. Check your policy and ask your insurer. Providers can often help document damage for a claim. Ask for it in writing.

How long does tree removal take?

It depends on tree size, access and weather. Many jobs fit within part of a day. Large trees near buildings can take longer. Providers set their own schedules, so Request a callback to check provider availability, or request an estimate and ask about dates.

How much does tree removal cost?

Typical U.S. jobs run from about $200 to $2,000 or more. Small trees sit at the low end. Tall trees near roofs or lines cost more, and storm work often costs more too. Price varies by job. Get a written quote that lists cleanup, hauling and any stump work, so you can compare quotes side by side.

Do I need stump grinding after the tree is gone?

You do not have to, but think about it. A stump left behind can sprout, draw ants and termites in humid weather, and trip people. Grinding takes it below ground level so you can plant grass or build over it. Ask the provider to quote it with the removal. Ask for it in writing.

How can I prepare my trees before storm season?

Walk your yard before storm season starts. Look for dead limbs, hollow trunks, mushrooms at the base, and branches hanging over the roof. Thinning a crowded canopy lets wind pass through. Keep heavy limbs away from the house and lines. A local provider can check the trees and tell you what needs trimming or removal. Request an estimate before the first warning.
